The Va'ad of Washington - approving source of kosher facilties; maintains a BET DIN for dealing
with matters affecting family status, i.e. adoption in accordance with Jewish law, marriage,
divorce and other services essential to the traditional jewish community.

The symbol (a house surrounding a `K') is the symbol of Kashruth Certification of the Va'ad
Harabanim of Greater Washington. Since the early days of the Washington Jewish community, the
Rabbinical Council has been the only local rabbinic organization entrusted with the supervision
and certification of Kashruth. The Takanoth and policies which have been formulated over the
years serve as the framework and structure for Kashruth observance and supervision for the
Greater Washington Community.
